Our blades are constructed by laminating different types of steel together to forge the blade,these lamination techniques give the sword its strength, durability and resistance to breakage.So the value of a sword is in part determined by the complexity of its construction.

Maru

It is made of one material,differential hardened with application of clay must be used.
 

Steel option: (1) mid carbon steel
(2) high carbon steel
 

 

Sanmai

It is made by a sandwich-like method,in this case the core steel is harder than the outer steel.

Core steel option: 



Outer steel option:

(1) mid carbon steel
(2) high carbon steel (only in chinese sword)

(1) mild carbon steel
(2) folded steel (mid carbon steel and mild steel )
(3) folded steel (raw steel) (only in chinese sword)

 

 

Kobuse

It is constructed of two different kinds of steel, the core steel and the outer steel, where the core steel is wrapped with the outer steel.Differential hardened with application of clay must be used.

Shihozume

It is made of four kinds of steel: the core, the outer, the cutting edge, and the back steel.The hardest is the cutting edge steel, the mildest is the core steel.

Honsanmai

Close to sanmai steel,in this case there is one more, a third kind of steel - the cutting edge steel which is the hardest of all,the core steel is the mildest.
