Our blades are constructed by laminating different types of steel
together to forge the blade, these lamination techniques give the
sword its strength, durability and resistance to breakage. So the
value of a sword is in part determined by the complexity of its
construction.
Code to different types of
steel

|
Maru
It is made of
one material, differential hardened with application of clay must be
used.
|
|
Steel option: |
(1) mid carbon steel
(2) high carbon steel |
 |
 |
Sanmai
It is made by a
sandwich-like method,in this case the core steel is harder than the
outer steel. |
|
Core steel option:
Outer steel option:
|
(1) mid carbon steel
(2) high carbon steel (only in chinese sword)
(1) mild carbon steel
(2) folded steel (mid carbon steel and mild steel )
(3) folded steel (raw steel) (only in chinese sword) |
 |
 |
Kobuse
It is constructed of two
different kinds of steel, the core steel and the outer steel, where
the core steel is wrapped with the outer steel.Differential hardened
with application of clay must be used.
|
|
Core steel:
Outer steel option: |
iron
(1) folded steel (high carbon
steel)
(2) folded steel (raw steel) |
 |
 |
Shihozume
It is made of four
kinds of steel: the core, the outer, the cutting edge, and the back
steel. The hardest is the cutting edge steel, the mildest is the core
steel.

|
Core steel:
Outer steel:
Edge steel:
Back steel: |
iron
folded steel (raw steel)
high carbon steel
mid carbon steel |
 |
 |
Honsanmai
Close to sanmai steel,in this
case there is one more, a third kind of steel - the cutting edge
steel which is the hardest of all,the core steel is the mildest. |

Outer steel:
Edge steel: |
